Labour for Leveson is a Hacked Off initiative.

Sign the pledge:
"As a member of the Labour Party I believe that all newspapers and their websites should be accountable to a genuinely independent regulator, to protect the public from lies, intrusion and abuse in the national press, as recommended in the Leveson Report.
"Noone should be above the law, and any newspaper involved in corruption or criminal behaviour should be investigated as part of Leveson Part Two."
For 80 years, governments in fear of Murdoch and other newspaper owners have ducked the challenge of press reform.
It's time for change.
Intrusion into grief. Hacking the phones of victims of crime. Disinformation about climate change and the EU. Lies and abuse targeted at those who lost their lives at Hillsborough. Discriminatory reporting aimed at the marginalised in our society. Misogyny and unethical reporting of domestic violence, which puts women at risk.
These are the consequences of the fact that, unlike other major industries, the British press is effectively unregulated. Instead, newspapers are in a press-dominated complaints body called "IPSO", which is controlled by newspaper executives and Tory politicians. IPSO has never investigated or fined any of its member newspapers.
We believe that Britain deserves better, and that this Labour Government can end 80 years of failure on media reform.
In 2012, the Leveson Report recommended that the Government act to ensure all newspapers become members of an indpendent regulator.
Sign our pledge today to show your support for Government action to protect the public from lies, intrusions and abuse in the press. These reforms were promised by the Party in Opposition repeatedly over the last 14 years. It's time those promises were followed through.
Leveson: The facts
01
The Leveson system of independent regulation has the support of journalists & has been repeatedly endorsed by the NUJ.
02
Leveson-style regulation protects press freedom by banning interference from politicians and the press.
03
An overwhelming majority of the public support the Leveson reforms - including a majority of voters of all parties.
04
Almost all major industries in the UK are independently regulated. Yet newspapers are still marking their own homework - all while the taxpayer hands them massive tax breaks & subsidies.
05
Newspapers have higher readerships than ever before: across print, their websites and their apps, they are reaching over 70% of the public every month - yet noone is holding them to account.
